I’m Ellen Cupo, currently serving my 3rd term on the New Haven Board of Alders (D–Ward 8)!
New Haven has been my home for my entire life, and I’m fighting to make sure that our city continues to be one where all families can thrive.
I’m honored to serve as Ward 8 Alder, which has given me the opportunity to bring community together through organizing and advocate for affordable housing, good jobs, traffic calming measures, and a livable neighborhood since 2020. As a working parent of young children, I understand the challenges that many families in our city face and I have fought for many measures to help working families.
This work takes many fronts. I led a campaign to keep a strip club out of Jocelyn Square Park, pressed for local hiring through New Haven Works, led in campaigns that increased revenue for our city, advocated for the passage and funding of CT Baby Bonds, and distributed masks, test kits, and food during the height of the pandemic.
I’m proud to carry on the legacy of building community in our city that my great-grandparents brought with them when they immigrated from Italy, and that my parents carried on as founding members of UNITE HERE Local 34. I’ve learned that we are stronger together and so I’m deeply committed to organizing with residents in Ward 8 to make sure our neighborhoods are ones where everyone can lead a dignified life.
